Zorak's PaPa

Robert Edward (Bob) Homrighaus, 77, of Texas City, passed from this life on Thursday, September 22nd. He was born on Galveston Island on May 1, 1928 to Henry and Ruth Homrighaus. Longtime citizens of Galveston, the Homrighaus family settled here in the late 1870’s. Bob grew up on the island and loved fishing, crabbing and boating. He married Barbara Lee Dawson, also of a long-time Galveston family, in November 1947. They raised their family in Galveston, moving to Texas City in the late 1960’s.
His life’s work was in the local dairy and meat industry. As a boy, he worked for his father’s family business, Suburban Dairy, based on Galveston Island. Later, he was co-founder of the first modern, one-stop shopping grocery stores in Galveston County, establishing and managing the meat markets in the Stop and Shop stores.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Lee; his brother Henry Louis Homrighaus, Sr. and his family; his daughter Judy Kaye Homrighaus; son Kenneth Ray Homrighaus and his wife; daughter Janice Elaine Homrighaus Pringle and her husband; son Larry Edward Homrighaus; his grand-daughters Melissa Kaye (Missy) Pringle, Lauren Renee Pringle, Erin Elizabeth Pringle, Samantha Leeann Pringle, and Ariel Caitlee Homrighaus. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Zachary Evans Homrighaus and an infant daughter, Rhonda Homrighaus.
The family will receive those wishing to pay their respects at Crowder Funeral Home, 401 Texas Ave., in LaMarque on 29th September from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Gulf Fwy. at Hughes Rd. in Dickinson, Texas on 30th , September at 11 a.m. His honorary pallbearers will be his five grand-daughters.
